Who provides the service
openBacky is operated by Ashish Ansurkar, trading as openBacky, a New Zealand sole trader. These terms cover the hosted service at app.openbacky.com for consumers and households worldwide. Contact support@openbacky.com for support or complaints. Self-hosted installations are operated by the person who installs them; their hosting and storage arrangements are separate.
Your account and household
A household administrator manages membership, the subscription and billing choices. Each member keeps control of their private files. Paying for a shared household plan does not give the administrator access to another member’s private library. You are responsible for keeping sign-in access and any connected-storage credentials secure and for using the service lawfully. Do not upload material you lack the right to store or share, interfere with the service, or try to access another person’s content.
Plans and payment
Free includes 10 GB of managed storage. My storage costs US$30 per year and includes 10 GB of managed storage plus support for your own Backblaze B2 account. Plus costs US$48 per year and includes 100 GB of managed storage. Family costs US$99 per year and includes 1 TB of managed storage. Paid prices are in USD for an annual subscription and include applicable subscription tax. Backblaze bills you separately for customer-owned B2 storage and transfer charges. The exact checkout total is shown before payment.
Paid plans renew automatically each year unless you stop renewal. Purchasing and billing management are available on the web only, not within the native Android app or a self-hosted installation. We may change future prices or plan terms with appropriate notice; the price shown at checkout governs that purchase unless the law requires otherwise.
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. See Paddle’s buyer terms and Paddle’s refund policy. You can also contact Paddle buyer support.
Storage and sharing
The managed allowance is measured across the billed household. It includes member-owned originals, files in Trash, active managed uploads and reserved managed copy bytes. Shared billing does not change who can access a private file. Customer-owned B2 objects are outside the managed allowance and remain subject to Backblaze’s charges and your B2 account settings. You remain responsible for copies of important files. Sharing and guest contributions use the permissions you choose; you may revoke access where the app permits. Hosted files are not end-to-end encrypted because the service processes them for storage, previews and delivery.
Ending a paid plan
An administrator can stop renewal and keep paid access until the paid period ends without an automatic refund. An administrator can instead accept a server-calculated quote to request early cancellation with a pro-rata refund for unused time in the current paid period. Paddle may process or approve that request. Paid features continue while the refund or immediate cancellation is unresolved and end only after both are verified. There is no cancellation fee. The Refund and Cancellation Policy explains the quote and how to seek stronger statutory remedies.
When paid access actually ends, the Free managed allowance applies. If household managed usage is over 10 GB, the recovery process gives authorised users at least 30 days to download or permanently delete their own files and blocks new managed uploads, backups, contributions and copies while over the allowance. Reducing usage to 10 GB or choosing a suitable paid plan resolves recovery. After the disclosed deadline and required warnings, automatic deletion, when enabled, may remove the entire remaining managed library, not just the bytes above 10 GB or an arbitrary selection. Once eligible cleanup begins, its own deletions do not make the rest of that library automatically safe; a customer-led reduction within Free or a suitable paid plan stops further cleanup. Automatic cancellation-based deletion is currently disabled. We will not apply it without the required warnings. It does not apply to a transient failed payment, suspension or unresolved billing dispute by itself.
Service changes and account deletion
We work to keep the hosted service available, but interruptions and maintenance may occur. Contact support if a defect prevents you from using it. Cancellation, a refund request, account deletion and ordinary Trash expiry are separate actions. To request deletion of your hosted account or specific data, see the Privacy Policy. Some billing, security or legal records may remain as required by law.
Your legal rights
These terms do not exclude or limit consumer guarantees, withdrawal rights, refund rights, remedies for faulty services or compensation that applicable law requires. Contact support@openbacky.com or Paddle to raise a statutory claim; you do not have to accept a smaller pro-rata refund first. We will handle complaints in good faith. Nothing here prevents you from contacting a regulator or using a remedy available under applicable law.
