Annual billing
openBacky hosted paid subscriptions are billed annually in USD through Paddle, the merchant of record. The prices shown at checkout include applicable subscription tax. Customer-owned Backblaze B2 storage and transfer charges are billed separately by Backblaze and are outside this policy’s subscription refund calculation. Contact support@openbacky.com with questions or complaints.
Choice 1: stop renewal
A household administrator can schedule cancellation for the end of the current paid period. Paid access continues until that date. We do not automatically refund the current payment for this choice, and there is no cancellation fee. The billing page shows the date, the resulting Free 10 GB managed allowance and an option to reverse a scheduled cancellation while Paddle permits it.
Choice 2: cancel early and request a refund
A household administrator can request a pro-rata refund for unused service throughout the current paid year, including an annual renewal. Before confirmation, the billing page calculates and shows the paid period, amount actually paid, prior refunds or credits, refund amount, currency, quote time, and fixed managed-storage recovery deadline. Paddle may need to process or approve the refund. Paid features continue while the refund or immediate cancellation is unresolved, and end only after both are verified. There is no cancellation fee.
We calculate the unused fraction using exact UTC timestamps: time remaining at the accepted quote cut-off divided by the full actual paid period. This includes partial days and leap years. For current USD subscriptions, we multiply that fraction by the amount actually paid for the current period, including tax and after discounts, round once to the nearest US cent, then subtract prior refunds or credits attributable to that period. The result never exceeds the amount still refundable. A US$48 payment with exactly half its paid period unused and no prior adjustment produces a US$24 refund. A fully consumed older period has no unused current service to refund under this rule.
The accepted quote is preserved during Paddle processing; a delay does not silently reduce it. If provider state changes before confirmation, you must refresh it. If Paddle rejects a refund, your paid access remains for the time you have paid for; you may contact support about any stronger rights. If processing or cancellation has an uncertain outcome, we hold the account for reconciliation rather than delete managed files.
Managed files when paid access ends
The early-cancellation quote discloses a recovery deadline fixed at exactly 60 days after the UTC quote calculation. If automatic cancellation-based deletion is enabled later, that is the earliest date it could begin. The interval allows time for Paddle processing and at least 30 days of recovery after paid access ends. If approval leaves fewer than 30 days before that fixed date, automatic deletion is disabled for that cancellation; a later recovery milestone may still be shown, and you can continue to recover files or contact support. Failed notices may move a deadline later, never earlier. Once paid access actually ends, the Free managed allowance is 10 GB for the household. If managed usage fits, managed files remain under Free. If usage is over 10 GB, the recovery window lasts at least 30 days. Authorised users can download and permanently delete their own files; new managed uploads, automatic backups, contributions and copies are blocked while over the allowance. A suitable paid plan or reducing usage to 10 GB resolves recovery. Trash usage counts until permanently deleted; the ordinary 30-day Trash rule is separate.
We send notices when recovery begins, seven days before the deadline, and one day before it. If required notices fail, the deadline moves later and deletion is held. If a household remains over the Free allowance after recovery, automatic deletion, when enabled, may remove its entire remaining managed library, not just the bytes over 10 GB. Once eligible cleanup starts, its own removals do not spare the rest of that library merely because the remaining usage drops below 10 GB. A customer-led reduction within the Free allowance or a suitable paid plan stops further cleanup. Keep selected files by reducing managed usage to within 10 GB before the deadline. Customer-owned B2 objects are excluded. Automatic cancellation-based deletion is currently disabled. We will not apply it without the required warnings.
Statutory rights and support
Applicable consumer law may provide a longer withdrawal period, a full refund, repair of a defective service, or compensation. These rights prevail over the pro-rata formula. You can request them through support@openbacky.com or Paddle buyer support without accepting the pro-rata amount first. Paddle handles payment and returns as merchant of record. See Paddle’s refund policy and our Terms.
